Ilminster Swimming Club has been through a challenging period over the last 6 months, with the closure of 1610 Swimming facilities in Chard. The committee have worked to find alternative swimming provision for the swimmers and we are pleased that session are now available in two pools in the Taunton area: Blackbrook and Holly Farm. We have approximately 100 members (of all ages) swimming regularly. Ilminster Swimming Club has achieved the accreditation Swim21. This is the Amateur Swimming Association’s (ASA) aquatic quality mark for the development of effective, ethical and sustainable ASA affiliated clubs.
The club is run solely on a voluntary basis and parents are expected to assist or take their turn as Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Committee Member or just offer to help at the poolside. All teaching staff are fully qualified and, other than the lead coach, all are volunteers. Ilminster swimming club encourages parents and young swimmers over the age of 16 to become teachers, we will support toward paying the full cost of the training course. Please ask us for more details if you will to get involved in this.
Traditionally, we hold an annual club gala in April and Saturday/Sunday half-hour swimmers have their own very special splash/mini gala. Our gala awards night is held in May and the evening also includes the ‘Endeavour’ awards, which are awarded by teachers for effort and progress throughout the year.
We run half hour sessions at Holly Farm, Taunton between 10am and 12 noon on a Saturday. There are also hourly sessions for our older swimmers and adults at Blackbrook on a Sunday morning from 7.45am and on a Wednesday evening.
Ilminster Swimming Club is a not-for-profit club run for its members with ASA Swim21 Accreditation
